O. J. Smith served on the Agamemnon from September 21, 1917 to August 24, 1919. During that time the ship made 19 trips to transport soldiers between Hoboken, New Jersey and Brest, France. Built 1903 in Stettin, Germany as a passenger steamer. She was westbound to New York when WW1 started on August 3, 1914 and remained there until it was seized by the U. S. Government in April, 1917. Commissioned as USS Kaiser Wilhelm II in late August, 1917. Named changed to USS Agamemnon in September. Decommissioned in August 1919, turned over to US Army for use as a transport. Fell out of use by mid-1920s, renamed Monticello in 1927, scrapped in 1940.
