The late August of 2002 two large, slowing moving weather systems merged over the Carolinas and produced heavy rainfall in localized areas.  Wilson, North Carolina was buried in nine inches of rain in a four hour period.  Meteorlogix LLC, a business weather solutions provider headquartered in Minneapolis, collected data during the event using NEXRAD Doppler radar.  NEXRAD, an acronym for Next Generation Weather Radar, is installed in 158 selected locations worldwide specifically to gather information about dangerous weather conditions.  Extensive analysis followed the storm and resulted in the development of methods for handling regularly arrayed repetitive trend data.
