In 1866 Charles Upham published a book which asserted that the infamous Salem witch trials were the result of financial and political friction between the town of Salem and the village of Salem (now Danvers); his brother, W. P. Upham, produced the map for the book.  Coursework to produce this map included georeferencing the Upham map then create a shapefile for the town boundary.  Since Upham's map was hand drawn, finding reliable references was somewhat difficult, but some of the modern boundaries appear to line up with the original township boundaries well enough to be useful.  The next two maps were also derived from this work.
